Pregnancy and Postpartum Skincare
“Are those products pregnancy and postpartum safe?”- the question I’m most often asked when I share my skincare routine. During my pregnancy with Teddy, I struggled with hormonal acne and melasma (darkening of the skin during pregnancy) so I was on the lookout and researching brands to try that would specifically target these concerns. I actually ended up asking the Karing for Postpartum community what worked for other moms going through the same thing and that’s where I heard about Barefaced! Thank you guys so much! A lot of you gave raving reviews saying “Jordan Harper’s Barefaced line is life changing, especially during pregnancy!”
I had already tried all of the typically recommended clean products for pregnancy. They were doing nothing for me at all. I also wasn’t getting any results with my normal drugstore products that worked for me in the past. It was not going well, so I knew I needed to make a change and try something different. So when everyone was recommending Barefaced by Jordan Harper, I went to their website and looked over everything. Once the price tag shock wore off, I decided to look further into the brand before I made the plunge.
the skincare quiz
I reached out to Jordan Harper and was able to talk directly with her. Jordan is a nurse practitioner who specializes in dermatology and is the owner of Barefaced. For me personally, I really value when people have a license behind what they’re sharing, educating on, doing, or making. It makes me feel a lot more confident in the company and product. I let her know that I was looking for pregnancy safe products that I wouldn’t have to switch out once I started breastfeeding and for something to help with hormonal acne and melasma. She suggested I start by doing the skin care consultation. So I sent them some photos and they sent me a full skincare routine using their recommended products. Something I really appreciated about this process was that even with their full list of recommended products, they said if I was wanting to incorporate something I was already using or not wanting to purchase the whole routine at once, they could totally work with what I already am using and loving. It was super helpful that they weren’t saying “you need ALL of these products for it to work for you.”
Since my two biggest concerns were melasma and hormonal acne, they recommended five specific products for me. I let them know I was only wanting to purchase two because they were so pricey. So the two they then recommended for me were the toning pads and the brightening serum. This way I could start working those into my routine and keep the cleanser and moisturizer I was already using. Those two products are how I would start to see a difference in my skin. It was really cool to me that I didn’t need to go and splurge on the entire regimen to start seeing results. Now I use both the toning pads and the brightening serum during the morning and at night. Total game changer for me! I definitely noticed a difference with my hormonal acne and melasma after a few weeks. One of my takeaways during this time was “Okay I spent all this money on skincare so you bet I’m going to make it worthwhile and give it my all.” So I followed the routine and used it all consistently, and that’s when I started to see results. They say consistency is key! Another question I’m commonly asked is how long the products last for me. It’s going to differ from person to person, but I’m using these products in the morning and at night, and they last me about three months.
I highly recommend using their skincare quiz, which is free, to guide you through what to use and some safe product recommendations. There is a place to say if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, so it can give you products that are safe for you, which I think is really nice. I love how Jordan has implemented that to her brand because she’s also a mom! Our skin may be different, our problems may be different, so I think it’s important to do the quiz or the consult, She has an entire category on her website that is specifically for pregnant and breastfeeding women which I think is so commendable that they took the time to group those products so that you know you’re going in there and finding something that’s safe, yet effective.
one year later
After a year of using Barefaced products, I feel like I can say I truly would go out barefaced and feel comfortable! I wouldn’t have been able to say that before. I loved Barefaced then and I love it now! I truly stand by their products. In the last year, I have added some products to my skincare routine. I’m still using the brightening serum and toning pads, but I have added the brightening cleanser, Overachiever (retinol alternative), hydrating moisturizer, and the tinted SPF. I wear the tinted SPF as my foundation because it’s just that good! This routine has worked so well through pregnancy and breastfeeding! I’m so glad to have found Barefaced! Now that I have all of their products I don’t think I’ll ever switch back to anyone else!
Hopefully all that information is helpful in some way! Pregnancy and skincare are not my specialty, so I just wanted to share this great source of information and education with you. Barefaced is a great resource to look into for pregnancy and postpartum/nursing safe products and addressing any skin issues that may arise for you during this time. They’re the skincare experts, so I’ll just keep sharing about pregnancy and postpartum and leave the skincare up to them! I also just want to say that I’m not sharing any of this as an affiliate. It doesn’t feel right to share about something that is so costly and such an investment that I had to pause to think about before originally purchasing, just so that I can make money off you guys purchasing it. So I’m only sharing my personal experience with the brand and what worked for me because I know skin issues can feel overwhelming on top of finding products that are pregnancy and nursing safe. Let me know if you decide to make the plunge into Barefaced and what products you love!
